Each year the ESAA accepts nominations for the Chuck Smith Scoutmaster of the Year award. Candidates must be a registered, seasoned Scoutmaster who exemplifies Scouting ideals of character and who has mentored a significant number of his/her Scouts in their advancement to the rank of Eagle. Consideration is given to their contributions both to the Scouting program and to involvement in religious and community service. Of all submissions each year, one Scoutmaster is selected for this award.
Mr. Honeycutt has been Scoutmaster at Troop 616 for over 14 years and has mentored more than 69 scouts to the rank of Eagle Scouts. He is himself an Eagle Scout and is highly trained in the Scouting program, and utilizes the Patrol method to provide numerous leadership opportunities for his Scouts. Troop 616 has received Gold Quality Unit status in every year of his tenure. He has led multiple high adventure and Jamboree excursions to the benefit of his Scouts and the Council. Additionally he has served in the community as a coach in soccer, softball, and basketball leagues.
Congratulations to Mr. Paul Honeycutt, 2020 Chuck Smith Scoutmaster of the Year.
