The San Diego-Imperial Council is blessed with a wonderful scholarship program. The Belcher Eagle Scout Scholarship Program was created by Donald and Marie Belcher for Eagle Scouts who plan to attend a four-year college or university following high school graduation. The application can be found here.
The funding for the three two-year scholarships will be $3,500 for the first year, renewable for a second year, with at least the equivalent of one year of college credits completed and a college grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or above, for a total amount of $7,000 to the recipient's college or university. To qualify, applicants must meet the following criteria:
1. Have attained the rank of Eagle Scout in the San Diego-Imperial Council of Boy Scouts of America and be
currently registered in Scouting.
2. Be a graduating high school senior entering college or university in the year the scholarship is applied for.
3. Have achieved a high school G.P.A. of 3.0 or above.
4. Have a S.A.T. score of 1500 or more or an A.C.T. score of 21 or more.
5. Have demonstrated leadership ability in Scouting and a strong record of participation in activities outside of
Scouting.
6. Have need of financial assistance and provide a statement clearly stating why he believes he needs financial
aid, signed by the applicant and countersigned by a parent/guardian.
7. Plan to attend any recognized four-year college or university.
8. Show evidence of the desire, commitment and capacity to complete an undergraduate college degree.
9. Provide one signed recommendation letter from an Adult Volunteer or Professional Scouter, whom you know
personally.
Applicants who are willing to serve as summer camp counselors will receive special consideration in the selection process. The scholarship funds can be used for tuition, room, board and books for as long as a recipient remains a full-time student during the life of the scholarship. The funds will be paid directly to the college or university that the recipient attends.

Membership Dues for 2012
The Eagle Scout Alumni Association needs your support. By being a paid member of the ESAA you help support the Scouting programs and activities in our council. Annual membership dues are still only $20, and a Life Membership is just $300. If you haven’t paid for 2012 yet, please do so today by contacting Debbie Lenart at Boy Scout Service Center at 619-298-6121.
Membership applications for 2012 General Membership can be found here.
Congratulations to Lt. Col. Kirk Willie, recipient of the 2011 Charles E. "Chuck" Smith Scoutmaster of the Year. Col. Willie is Scoutmaster of Troop 789 at Camp Pendleton, and has been instrumental in the reconstruction of the troop since 2006. He personally mentored over a dozen Scouts on their successful Eagle journey. He also helped form Crew 789 and Ship 789 and has grown the Scouting presence on the base over 400% in the last five years.
The ESAA would like to thank all Scoutmasters in our council for their dedication to creating a quality program for our young men. The trail to Eagle is long and challenging, and no Scout would complete the climb without the leadership of their Scoutmaster. We salute you!
