Deering Recognized in Eagles' Call
New Scouting Alumni Association
The purpose of the San Diego - Imperial Council Eagle Scout Alumni Association (ESAA) is to support and enlarge the success of the Boy Scout movement and build fellowship among adult Eagles in San Diego and Imperial Counties. The ESAA achieves this purpose, by recruiting as many adult Eagle Scouts as possible to become Scouting volunteers, by supporting activities within the Council that promote the Scouts' advancement along the Trail to Eagle and by giving recognition to the young men who earn the rank of Eagle Scout.
The new BSA Scouting Alumni Association welcomes everyone positively and personally impacted by the Boy Scouts of America - former Scouts, family members of Scouts past and present, volunteers past and present, and the millions of Americans who benefit from Scouting in their communities every day-to join today.
By joining the Scouting Alumni Association, you'll stay up to speed on what's happening in Scouting and help youth experience the excitement, challenges, and adventure that Scouting has to offer.
This organization is separate from ESAA and covers all past scouts and leaders nationwide. Go to their website here, to join. Lots of discounts available to members.
It is scholarship season again. We have two scholarship programs in council dedicated to Eagle Scouts and we hope that all eligible scouts will take advantage of the offerings. The Belcher Eagle Scout Scholarship is for graduating seniors who plan to attend a four year university. Our council awards three scholarships per year of $3,500 each for the first year, renewable for a second year at university. The William Doole Eagle Scout Scholarship is for Eagles who are in their second or later year of continuing education and are active as an adult leader in Scouting. Our council awards one scholarship per year of $2,500 for this program.
For mor information please see our page on Scholarships.
Our own Greg Deering, of Deering Banjos, Scoutmaster, Silver Beaver Recipient, and Distinguished Eagle Scout Award recipient was featured in a spotlight article in the Summer 2015 edition of the NESA magazine, Eagles' Call.
Greg Deering has served as Scoutmaster of Troop 355 since 1987. Following the example of his own Scoutmaster, Bob, Lawrence, he encourages Scouts to run their own program. "The boys do a good job," he says, "and most of the time the audlts have a lot of really wonderful fellowship all on their own."
Take a look at the NESA Eagles' Call magazine, received if you are a NESA member, or available by subscription at http://www.nesa.org/eagleletter.html.
